Open Air Burn Permit Application

Please complete this two-page application to request an open air burn permit from the City of Cornwall.

Please read By-law #2020-06 before proceeding.

I agree to assume all responsibility for any damages occuring from the fire for which this permit is issued.
 
I have advised all my neighbors on nearby properties of my intent to conduct open air burns.
 
I understand that fires must not be larger than 45 centimetres in length, 45 centimetres in width, and 45 centimetres in height.
 
I understand that the open air burn must be at least 7.5 metres (24.6 feet) away from any building, structure, property line, tree, hedge, fence, roadway, overhead wire or any other combustible article.
 
I understand that I may only burn clean, cured, seasoned hard wood. I understand that I may not burn noxious materials or yard waste.
 
I understand that I must have a rake or shovel, and effective extinguishing agent nearby.
 
I understand that open air burning may only take place between May 1 and September 30, and from 6 p.m. to midnight.
 
I understand that this permit is valid for three seasons (2026, 2027, 2028).
 
I understand that I must not burn if it is rainy or foggy, if a smog alert has been implemented, or if a burn ban has been implemented.
 
I understand that in the case of a nuisance call, I must extinguish my fire immediately. I understand that if I do not immediately extinguish my fire, the municipality may do so at my expense of the owner (minimum cost of $459).
 
I have read By-Law #2020-119 and agree to abide by all regulations and terms within.
